Face Mask Friday: SPF

We are into our series for Face Mask Friday and today, we bring you all the goods on SPF. We’ve covered actual face masks (shocking!) and eye creams, so if you have suggestions for future Fridays, leave them in the comments below!

Sun protection is essential no matter how old you are or where you live. This is a 24 hour, 365 day a year commitment that should be a beauty COMMANDMENT in our lives, but we often don’t acknowledge it until warmer weather approaches.

Here is your reminder for this spring, summer, fall, and winter: LADIES, WEAR THAT SPF! Ideally, we’d be reapplying every 4 hours for adequate protection, but with work, makeup, and life, this is not exactly an attainable goal.

I’m here to share that brands are finally realizing that we don’t set an alarm every 240 minutes and wait to reapply. Touch-up products are finally becoming available (and in powder form!).

Here are The Fairy Tale Family’s top SPF picks:

SPF for Mamas (or really all adults):

Supergoop SPF 40
$19 for 2.4 oz

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40

This product does SO many things. As a Broad Spectrum, it covers you from both UVA and UVB rays – hooray! BUT, as someone who wants to wear SPF under my makeup, this also works like a primer. It grips your makeup and doesn’t slide around like a sticky, slick mess (aka most facial sunscreens). Lastly, it works on blue light, too (think: all screens in your life!).

Tatcha SPF 35
$65 for 2 oz.

Tatcha’s Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35

Like all things Tatcha, this product is perfect. Unlike so many necessary things that we tend to feel are tedious, putting this on your face feels luxurious. I mean, it is. It’s Tatcha and it’s $65, but you will want to smear this pore filling, supple cream onto your skin. I promise.

 Drunk Elephant SPF 30
$36 for 2 oz.

Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30

Girl, you know I can’t have a beauty list without my favorite skincare! Drunk Elephant never disappoints. This is my favorite summer product. I don’t like to wear much makeup in summer months, so this does the job for me. It’s a hint of color and glow without being sparkly and obvious. There is also a non-tinted option for those of you who don’t want to glow (do these people exist?)

Tarte SPF

Tarte Tarteguard Mineral Powder Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Friends, if you wear makeup during hotter months and want a way to calm your shine WHILE reapplying SPF in a mess-free convenient way, this powder brush is for you. A truly innovative product that does all the healthy things you need to do for your face while also serving as oil control. Genius!

Neutrogena SPF
$24 for 6 oz.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion SPF 50

For babes on a budget, or those who don’t want to spend more money than necessary for basic sunscreen, this water-based formula feels cooling to the touch and more like skincare than sunscreen. This works really well on both bare skin and under makeup!

Final Thoughts:

I feel like if I’m willing to spend pretty decent moola on products for skincare or makeup, then I should treat my skin the best I can. The most BASIC of steps for this is SPF. There is something for every budget, so there’s no excuse not to be doing this! Choose your poison, ladies (but, please, let’s choose protection over wrinkles and skin cancer).
